Maine Family Planning is committed to providing you with excellent, reliable sexual and reproductive health care while dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic in our communities. Patient care and safety is our top priority. We are doing all we can to meet patient needs at this time, including by offering expanded telehealth visits. Effective immediately, we are not offering any walk-in appointments or online booking. Additionally, to minimize the number of people in the waiting room, we ask that anyone who is not the patient being seen today wait outside.

Symptoms of COVID-19 may include:

Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms or combinations of symptoms may have COVID-19:

Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

Or at least two of these symptoms:

Fever
Chills
Repeated shaking with chills
Muscle pain
Headache
Sore throat
New loss of taste or smell

Most patients experience mild symptoms and can recuperate at home, but others, particularly those with underlying medical conditions, may experience more severe respiratory illness.

We are using telehealth technology to the extent possible.

We have increased availability of hand sanitizer throughout our clinics and we are cleaning surfaces frequently.

We are spacing out appointments and limiting the number of people in our facilities to reduce potential exposures and encourage social distancing (staying at least 6 feet away from people).

We are extending birth control prescriptions as we are able in order to reduce visits to our clinics.

We are waiving fees for mailing birth control to patients (you will only be charged the cost of the pills).

We are transitioning much of our care to Virtual Visits using telehealth technology. We may even offer curbside service (such as bringing birth control pills to your car), if possible.

Some services and procedures require in-person care. When you arrive at our clinic, you will be asked to use hand sanitizer before interacting with clinic staff.

You will be asked questions about recent travel and symptoms related to COVID-19.

Our goal is to provide you the services you need; however, if we cannot do so because you have symptoms of COVID-19, we will recommend that you contact your primary care provider and reschedule your appointment with us. We recommend social distancing as much as possible in the clinic, and you may notice our staff wearing masks, gloves, and gowns. You may also be asked to wear a mask during your visit.

There are simple steps you can take to reduce the possible spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses such as influenza and the common cold:

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer
Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
Stay home while you’re sick and avoid close contact with others

Currently there is no vaccine available to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
