To ensure continued access to birth control and other essential sexual and reproductive health services during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond, Maine Family Planning uses telehealth technology to connect with patients from a distance.

A Virtual Visit lets you see an expert Maine Family Planning provider without having to travel or leave home. A telehealth appointment is a lot like your regular in-person visit, just over video. All you need is Internet access and a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera. You’ll log in and see your provider on the screen. Your medical provider can discuss medical concerns, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options (including prescription medicine), and more. It’s all secure and confidential – and the technology is easy to use!

The services we provide virtually include:

  • Birth control: extending prescriptions, prescribing a new method, counseling on methods
  • Emergency contraception
  • Urinary tract infection (UTI) diagnosis and treatment
  • Pregnancy options counseling
  • Open Door gender-affirming health care
  • STI testing and treatment
  • Some forms of gynecologic care, testing, and treatment

We are also able to provide abortion care using telehealth technology. Call (207) 922-3222 to
discuss your options for abortion in Maine.

Like most medical appointments, cost varies based on insurance coverage and type of visit. A sliding fee scale is available.

Most insurers are now covering telehealth care. If you have specific questions, please contact your insurance company.

You can schedule your family planning telehealth appointment here or call us at (207) 922-3222, Monday – Thursday 9 AM – 5 PM or Friday 8 AM – 4 PM.

Or, use the chat function on our site during business hours to talk with an MFP patient care specialist about setting up a telehealth appointment.

If a Virtual Visit will not meet your needs, we will work to get you into a nearby Maine Family Planning clinic while using all CDC recommended procedures to keep you and our staff safe. As a reminder, if you have symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, fever, shortness of breath) or have recently been exposed to someone who has tested positive or has symptoms and is awaiting a test result, we ask that you defer an in-person visit. Thanks for working with us to keep everyone healthy.
