Birth Control, Family Planning, Health Care

During this time of social and economic uncertainty, it’s more important than ever to have the information and supplies you need to avoid unplanned pregnancy.

That’s why Maine Family Planning is ramping up its telehealth operations in response to Covid-19, so you can access expert care, including many forms of contraception, without having to visit a clinic.

This service is available to new and current patients. All you need is an internet connection and a smartphone or computer with a camera. To find out how we can help you remotely or to schedule a Virtual Visit, call (207) 922-3222 anytime Monday-Friday, 10-4.

Covid-19 and Birth Control

We already know that the Covid-19 pandemic is making it harder for some people to access birth control. We want to make sure that even if you a) live in a remote area, b) have lost work or insurance, and/or c) are trying to minimize your trips outside the home, you can still get the health care you need.

MFP offers several types of birth control for new and current patients through the Virtual Visits app. After you speak with a qualified clinician, we can:

  • Mail supplies to you (pills or rings);
  • Call in the prescription for you to pay for and pick up at your local pharmacy; or
  • Arrange for curbside pick-up at one of our 18 clinics statewide.

If your prescription is nearing its end, we may be able to simply extend your prescription for 90 days.

Or maybe you want to start birth control — we can help with that, right away.

Don’t worry if you are on the birth control shot (Depo Provera). At this time, we are still able to administer shots at our clinics, following new protocols to keep patients and staff safe and healthy.

As always, we see all patients regardless of their ability to pay. We offer a sliding fee scale. There is also expanded insurance coverage for telehealth visits during this time. If you have questions, just ask! We want to make sure that the care you need is accessible and affordable.
